Motorola has been on a roll these past few years and the company is not stopping now, even in the face of a saturated smartphone market and stark competition. Motorola is planning to announce the successor to last year’s Droid Turbo, the Moto X Force. The Droid Turbo 2 was dubbed Moto X Force after a couple of certification documents listing a device by that name surfaced with specs that pertained to a Verizon-branded sturdy Motorola handset that could be none other than the Droid Turbo 2.
Apparently, the Droid Turbo 2 release date is set for October 15, according to a report from Phandroid. Take it with a grain of salt as the company hasn’t officially confirmed the launch date. The handset is expected to make its debut in India, after which it should be launched on Verizon and then globally. The handset will be called the Moto X Force on the international market, but Verizon’s model will most likely stay with the Motorola Droid Turbo name, for the sake of tradition.
The first Motorola Droid Turbo is regarded as one of the best Motorola devices, surpassing even last year’s massive Motorola Nexus 6. Fans of the company and the Android community in general have high expectations of the second generation of the Droid Turbo. The Lenovo-owned company has been working on improving their software and has added quite a few neat features to its newer handset portfolio that was launched this year ahead of IFA Berlin.
The Droid Turbo 2 will most likely feature future-proof specs in both the Verizon and international models. Verizon is anticipated to start selling the Droid Turbo 2 in November, with a release date pegged for the end of this month. Seeing as the device will go up against Google’s new Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P and Apple’s iPhone 6S family of smartphone, the Droid Turbo 2 needs to be innovative and unique in order to succeed.
Apparently, the device will be just that, as leaked specs point towards a 5.43-inchQHD POLED display, a Snapdragon 810 CPU, 3 GB RAM, 32 and 64 GB internal storage, 3760 mAh battery, 21 MP camera with laser autofocus, optical image stabilization and tri-tone LED flash, 5 MP front camera, LTE Cat 6, USB Type C port with an added adaptor, wireless charging, Quick Charge 2.0, and more.
The Droid Turbo 2 design will feature various different finishes like kevlar and ballistic nylon, among other new ones, but it will also feature a shock-, dust- and waterproof body, a metal frame and the option to customize through the Moto Maker platform. While customization options sounds pretty awesome for such a phone, Motorola has not yet revealed what kind of customizations buyers will be able to do with the handset.
Pricing and availability are uncertain at this point, but the community is confident that the Droid Turbo 2 release date is close and that we should expect to see more video and photo leaks in the next few weeks until the end of the month. We’re looking forward to Motorola’s new beast, with high hopes.
