The Huawei P9 is a solid phone from a major Chinese manufacturer, but many users have reported issues with the battery overheating. This isn’t a problem isolated to the Huawei P9, but the phone is sadly not exempt from the issue. A fix that works most of the time is to factory reset your phone, but there are a few steps you can go through in order to try to fix an overheating battery in your P9 handset before you resort to such drastic measures.
Clear Your Cache
Wiping the cache of the phone is likely to fix the issue for many users. In order to do this on the Huawei P9, follow the steps below:
- Turn off your phone.
- Press and hold the Power, Volume up, and Home buttons together.
- Let go once the Huawei logo shows up.
- Use the volume buttons to navigate to wipe cache partition in the recovery menu.
- Press Power to select the option.
- When it’s done use the Volume buttons to highlight reboot system now and Power to select it.
This process will clear your cache and may clear up a lot of your battery issues.
Identify a Problem App
It’s also possible that a 3rd party app is causing your issue. Unfortunately, development of apps isn’t strictly regulated and shoddy programming or excessive features can result in apps that are surprisingly heavy on your battery. To find out if this is the issue, boot your phone into Safe Mode by holding down the Power button and then tapping and holding Power Off until you see Reboot to safe mode.
Try running the phone for a while in Safe Mode and see how your battery is doing. If the battery doesn’t heat up, then you know it’s a 3rd party application and it’s time for process of elimination. Start with culprits that are obviously hard on the battery like music and video apps and work your way down the list until you find the problem application.
Factory Reset Your Phone
If the above steps don’t work, you may be forced to factory reset your phone. This is a last resort option and should only be done if nothing else works, since it will completely restore your phone to factory settings. This will likely fix the issue but destroy all your personal files and preferences.
- Turn off your phone.
- Press and hold Power and Volume up
- Let go once the Huawei logo shows up
- Use the volume buttons to navigate to wipe data / factory reset in the recovery menu.
- Press Power to select the option.
- When it’s done use the Volume buttons to highlight reboot system now and Power to select it.
Hopefully one of the steps above helps you. Keep an eye on GeekReply for the latest tips on the Huawei P9 and anything and everything geeky!

PlayStation Studios’ PC Games to Grow Beyond FY22

PlayStation Studios PC sales were announced in Sony’s Business Segment Meeting, along with PSVR2 sales, PS Plus numbers, and major PS5 game release dates.
Spider-Man Remastered and The Last of Us: Part 1 led the pack with 1.5 million and 368K sales, respectively. Maybe it was worthwhile.
Sony expects this trend to continue (see that graph!). and will remain bullish on PC ports (quietly jacking prices in some places), but has stated that PS5 is the priority. The PlayStation Showcase, less than 24 hours away, may bring more PC announcements.
PlayStation Studios’ PC success—what do you think?
