Welcome back to my list of comics that I think should have TV shows. If you’re new reading this feel free to check out the introduction. The seventh part of the series is about Werewolf by night, a lesser-known comic book.
While I’m fully aware that I’m probably the only person on Earth that actually read Werewolf by Night I would probably like to see it adapted to TV more than any other Marvel series aside from X-Men. “Werewolf by Night” stars the werewolf protagonist Jack Russell (which is the single dirtiest pun a comic book character has ever had for a name). It would be cool to see a TV series about werewolves that doesn’t fall into the tired paranormal teen romance genre that “Teen Wolf” seemed to turn into.
Werewolf by Night would have the possibility of featuring other Marvel characters, particularly Moon Knight but what it would really bring to the table is occasionally featuring superheroes while starring a character that is not a superhero himself, but doesn’t fall into the category of boring normal humans. He has the benefits of being both a relatable normal guy but also an intimidating and powerful anti-hero without becoming just another superhero that can often blend into the crowd in the way that we’re finding with all of the comic based films as of late.
There is a lot that can be done with him as a character with all the baggage that comes with being a werewolf. What would be most interesting would be his fight to control his lycanthropy, as he can change through sheer force of will and control himself. However when the full moon is in the sky he will become the typical ravenous beast we expect from werewolves and this struggle with his lack of total control over his beast form is something that I’d love to see done with this character.
With anything remotely comic book related automatically selling lately as well I could actually see this taking off despite not being a very well known IP. In a world where Guardians of the Galaxy of all things was the 2nd most successful film of that year, anything is possible.
