All Star Cast Joins Ratchet & Clank Movie

Sony has announced that John Goodman, Sylvester Stalone, Bella Thorne, & others have joined the cast of the Ratchet & Clank movie

“Video game movie” is a phrase that can make gamers everywhere cringe in horror and cry out to leave their favorite gaming series off the big screen. Anyone who has seen just a small part of the Super Mario Bros. or Bloodrayne movies can tell you game movies have never done well. That’s why it was no surprise that fans didn’t jump for joy when the Ratchet & Clank movie was announced by Sony. No one had faith that the universe hopping duo would receive a movie that did them justice.

Sony undeterred by fans worries set out determined to change people’s view of video game movies by hiring Rainmaker Entertainment and Blockade Entertainment. They promised to stay true to Ratchet & Clank’s art style and humor, even bringing in the original voice actors of the characters. A trailer for the movie proved that Sony was sticking to their promises but since then there’s been no more information put out; until today when Insomniac and Sony broke their silence.

Announcing that the Ratchet & Clank movie is still in development, and that familiar big name voices would be joining the movies cast. Sony released details that John Goodman (The Big Lebowski, Roseanne), Sylvester Stalone (Rocky, Rambo), Bella Thorne (Blended), Rosario Dawson (Sin City, Daredevil), and Paul Giamatti (Sideways, Shoot ’em Up) will all be adding their voices to the movie. Giamatti will be taking on the role of Chairman Drek (the main villain of the movie), Goodman will be playing Grimoth, Stallone is set to be Victor, Dawson as Elaris, and Thorne as Cora.

Sony held back information on who these characters are and what role they’ll be playing so we’ll simply have to wait for a new trailer to learn more. Still, fans can be excited to hear that such an all star cast will be joining the original Ratchet & Clank voice actors James Arnold Taylor as Ratchet, David Kaye returning as Clank, Jim Ward again voicing the “great hero” Captain Quark, and most excitingly Armin Shimerman as Dr. Nefarious. Blockade CEO Brad Foxhoven is certainly excited to see the star studded cast join the movies ranks:

“We are honored and thrilled to have these actors join our cast. Their unique voices, and the level of humor and emotion they bring to their roles will help to create some endearing and memorable characters in the film.”

If the cast announcement wasn’t enough to get fans excited Sony also released new details about the movies plot and a 2016 release date. The story will follow Ratchet & Clank who have teamed up with a group known as the Galactic Rangers in order to stop the evil Chairman Drek from wiping out all the planets in the universe. It’s just too bad that no new trailer accompanied this announcement so that fans could get an idea of how it’s progressing. Gamers will still be hard pressed to believe that a game movie can ever be better than what they saw in the Heavenly Sword film.

Fear not; for those worried about potential censorship issues with the PS5-exclusive Stellar Blade, set to release on April 26th, Sony has got you covered. ShiftUp, the developer, proudly assures players that the game will maintain its uncensored content across all regions, including Japan.

We have to admit, we didn’t anticipate this as a potential issue or a potential selling point. The main character, Eve, and her revealing costumes have been heavily showcased in the game’s pre-release marketing. Nevertheless, it is pleasing to witness ShiftUp’s evident enthusiasm as their vision prepares to reach the hands of a vast number of players.

Regarding Stellar Blade, Yoko Taro believes it surpasses NieR: Automata, and we were pleased to learn that the game will be considerate of your PS5 storage capacity. The demo is now available for you to try, and it has nearly doubled the daily active users of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. This is quite impressive, especially considering it is the game’s first console showing.

Will you be there to experience Stellar Blade on its release day? It’s certainly a relief to witness the game remaining uncensored until the last moment. Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section below.

Sony is reportedly engaged in discussions to form a partnership for a potential bid on Paramount

There hasn’t been much buzz lately about any new acquisitions in the world of video game intellectual property. According to a recent report, Sony is currently engaged in discussions with a well-funded partner to potentially acquire the renowned film studio Paramount, along with all the exciting possibilities that come with such a merger.

As reported in the New York Times (thanks, ResetEra), Sony Picture Entertainment is reportedly in discussions with Apollo Global Management, an investment firm, as per two sources familiar with the matter. In the past, Apollo had made an offer to acquire Paramount for a minimum of $26 billion, but their bid was ultimately turned down.

The terms of the joint bid are currently under discussion, and there is a chance that the two parties may decide against making a formal offer. Unnamed sources have revealed that Paramount is currently in exclusive discussions with Skydance, preventing any official offer from being made at this time. Investor opposition to the recent deal that Skydance brought seems to have been significant.

The potential impact of such an acquisition is immense. First and foremost, it would introduce adaptations of Sonic and Halo into the expanding media empire of the PlayStation platform holder. Following the announcement, Paramount’s stock experienced a significant 11% surge in after-hours trading.
