Capcom Confirms Street Fighter 5 won't be coming to Xbox

Capcom squashes any hope that Street Fighter 5 will be making the jump to Xbox One in the future

Street Fighter can claim the title of one of the longest running series in the fighter genre, with roots stretching back clear to the arcade days. The Capcom owned series has been missing in action for a while now but its ready to make a comeback in a big way with Street Fighter 5. Raising a lot of excitement from fans who are eager to jump back into the brawler once again, except for fans who own an Xbox One.

When Street Fighter 5 was first announced fans were caught off guard by Capcom’s decision to only release it on PS4 and PC. No one was expecting the brawler to become a PS4 console exclusive, leaving the Xbox One out in the cold. After the shock wore off fans started assuming that the game was only a timed exclusive and would eventually make its way to Xbox. Today Capcom smashed any hope that Street Fighter 5 would ever grace Microsoft’s latest console.

A Capcom representative reached out to Gamespot to confirm once and for all that Street Fighter 5 is going to stay locked into its PC and PS4 deal. The representative gave few details about why the title was staying locked, only saying the deal wasn’t just for marketing purposes, but for development as well, suggesting Sony is playing a part in the games development.

“We’re not talking about how we’re handling post-launch content, but I can say the relationship with Sony does open doors for things we haven’t been able to do in the past,” Continuing onto say. “The relationship serves a gameplay and development purpose, and not just a marketing value.”

Capcom’s representative didn’t stop there though, they squashed any possible hope gamers had of future iterations of Street Fighter 5 making its way to Xbox One. Meaning they can forget titles like Super Street Fighter 5 ever popping up in the Xbox library.

“One comment we see a lot is that something like a Super Street Fighter 5 is going to come out on Xbox,” said the representative. “But the reality is that this is a real partnership. We are console exclusive for this franchise for this numbered run.”

Its sad to see that Street Fighter 5 won’t be making an appearance on Microsoft’s latest console but Xbox One owners still have plenty to look forward to. Xbox already has an impressive lineup of exclusive titles for owners to enjoy that should make this news easier to bear.

This author has consistently praised the realistic portrayal of tennis in TopSpin 4. After more than a decade, we are thrilled to witness the release of TopSpin 2K25, which expands upon the success of its renowned predecessor. This gameplay video provides a comprehensive overview of the features discussed in our recent preview while also incorporating relevant footage to enhance understanding.

The series’ swing system sets it apart from arcade-style games like Virtua Tennis, as it requires players to charge up their shots in a different way. In order to succeed, timing is crucial, and fortunately, a new meter above your player will assist you in achieving that. Surfaces have their own distinct characteristics, such as clay, where you’ll experience a noticeable amount of sliding.

The game ensures that every player has a distinct set of animations, adding a touch of individuality to each competitor. The courts, found in all Grand Slams, possess a remarkable amount of individuality and charm. It is mentioned in the video that with each in-game season, players can expect a plethora of additional content, such as animation packs. This indicates that there will be plenty to anticipate even after the game’s initial release.
