The Pokémon Company has released information about the first new form we can acquire in the upcoming Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon; Dusk Form Lycanroc. The new design features a burnt orange tone for Lycanroc’s fur and a teal-green for its eyes.
Previously, only the Midday and Midnight forms were available from Sun and Moon respectively, but how players can acquire this new form remains a mystery. Officially, the Pokémon Company has stated ‘you can’t get Dusk Form Lycanroc on your team by ordinary methods, such as discovering the Mysterious Pokemon in the wild’. As you may expect, this has led to large amounts of speculation as to how exactly the Pokémon can be caught.
There may, however, be clues offered by the Pokémon anime in an episode due to air on August 10th. Ash’s Rockruff, the pre-evolution of Lycanroc, is seen evolving stood between the two other forms of Lycanroc whilst the sun sets on the Horizon. Furthermore, Rockruff had just defeated an opposing Midday form Lycanroc owned by Island Kahuna Olivia. During the double battle, Rockruff had accidentally KO’ed Ash’s Rowlet.
All these occurrences may be clues as to how the player can obtain Dusk Form Lycanroc in the upcoming games, but this is all speculation until the Pokémon Company reveal more to us. Forms are already an important part of the original Sun and Moon, so much so that the new games feature Forms that ‘are reminiscent of the Legendary Pokémon that appeared in Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon: Solgaleo, Lunala, and Necrozma’. If the legendaries themselves are being altered, it’s evidence they may become a fundamental part of the franchise.
According to the Pokémon Company, Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon ‘are coming to the Nintendo 3DS family of systems on November 17th 2017′ and ‘allow players to enjoy playing in one of nine languages: English, Japanese, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Korean, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese.’
