Each Final Fantasy game has an immense amount of pressure on it to live up to the high standards that the series is known for, but it’s hard to imagine any game in the series having as much to live up to than Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Remaking the most beloved game in the series is a monumental task, but it looks like Square Enix fully intends to meet and even surpass the original.
This has been revealed by a new job listing that has surfaced for the game, which has been translated by Gematsu. It claims that the game will be a “new creation not limited to a simple remake.” The job listing says that “It should be noted that this is an internal production. After 20 years, the staff behind the original Final Fantasy VII, who are top-rankers in the industry even now, are reuniting. A project to create “a title that surpasses the original” is starting full-scale.”
It looks like the goal is to keep the core of what makes Final Fantasy 7 what it is, but then expand upon that in every possible way. It’s good to hear that they’re getting together a team of series veterans to make this happen, which gives it a much better chance of being as good as it can possibly be.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake does not currently have a release date, but is in development for PlayStation 4.
