We had heard previously that SEGA was planning on remastering all of the main Yakuza games prior to 6, and now that has been confirmed. The latest issue of Dengeki PlayStation has revealed that the company will be releasing remasters of 3, 4 and 5 over the coming months.
As for what fans can expect from these games, they will offer improved resolution and framerates of the original releases. That means that all three of these releases will be running at 1080p and 60 frames per second. The following is the release schedule for the three games, which will all be out by Spring next year:
Yakuza 3 – August 9th
Yakuza 4 – Fall 2018
Yakuza 5 – Spring 2019
These remaster announcements were also featured in the latest issue of Weekly Famitsu. The magazine confirms that these remasters are just going to be updated versions of the original releases, rather than full on remakes like what was done with the first two. They also confirmed that work on the remaster for the third game is about 90% complete.
A remake of the second game in the series is set to launch later this year on PlayStation 4. That game will be the first of the remake series to run on the new dragon engine that was featured in Yakuza 6, which was very impressive. The remake of the first game was well-received, and early buzz on the second game has been just as positive.
