From Software’s Souls series has gone on to become one of the most beloved series of recent memory. With the brutal difficulty and jaw-dropping locations and enemies, each and every installment was a special experience. However, with the developer moving on to other things now, that leaves fans with only remasters to look forward to, but one game in particular has gone missing: Demon’s Souls.
Earlier this year fans were treated to a remaster of Dark Souls, the first game in the series to be a multiplatform release. However, Demon’s Souls was actually the first game in the series overall, releasing exclusively for the PlayStation 3. That game received critical acclaim and ended up on many game of the year lists for that particular year, kicking off what would be a run of 5 excellent games from From Software. However, with the second game getting a remaster and no news on a remaster of the first, will it even happen?
Demon’s Souls PS4 Remaster
Considering that fewer people played Demon’s Souls compared to Dark Souls, this means that the demand for it naturally isn’t as high. However, that doesn’t mean that there isn’t demand at all, as the original game has quite a following at this point. While the developer would go on to perfect many of the mechanics that Demon’s Souls offered with later installments, it still featured fantastic gameplay and locations to explore that both longtime fans and potential newcomers would love to check out.
So, what’s Sony waiting for? Well, it really depends on one thing: money. The Dark Souls remasters weren’t massive sellers or anything like that, and that could result in Sony being hesitant to go forward with a remaster with a smaller install base. Still, considering the series’ fanbase and the install base for the PS4, there are still lots of potential players that could line up for this one. Bloodborne was also a PlayStation-exclusive and did incredibly well, so it’s not like it’s out of the question.
We’re just going to have to wait and see what Sony decides to do with Demon’s Souls, but I personally would love to take a return trip through this excellent game with a fresh coat of paint. There isn’t much information to go on at this point, but we’ll keep you posted if anything new happens.
