There have been many attempts at bringing back the oldschool RPG gameplay from the 90s in recent years, but no series has done it as well as Square Enix’s Bravely series. Both Bravely Default and Bravely Second did a fantastic job of delivering that classic RPG charm, while also bringing some new things to shake up the formula.
While we’ve know that more was coming from the series, it looks like we might be getting an official announcement soon. This comes from the game’s official Twitter account, which recently tweeted: “It’s already been said, but – Octopath Traveler shipped one million units! Thank you so much! And now…!? Please keep your eyes on Square Enix 11th Business Division’s games in the future.”
The tweet is accompanied by new artwork, which shows the Octopath Traveler one million shipments celebration artwork creating the shadow of a fairy. This shadow will be very familiar to fans of the Bravely series, as it is very obviously the shadow of Airy.
What remains to be seen is what platform this game is being developed for. While the first two games in the series were 3DS-exclusives, the developer has suggested in the past that the series won’t necessarily remain on 3DS only. Considering that the Switch has since released and serves as a home console/mobile hybrid, it’s possible that the series could be Switch-bound.
We’ll bring you more information as soon as it becomes available. The last game in the series to release was 2015’s Bravely Second: End Layer.
