Nintendo has announced that a new system update will be coming to Switch, which will bring it up to version 6.0.0. The company made the announcement on their official website, revealing that the update will go live on September 18 at 5:00 pm PT / 8:00 pm ET.
While the specific patch notes for the update weren’t released, we do know that this will be a major update for the console. This update will be getting the console ready for the paid Switch online services, which are set to arrive very soon. A brief maintenance period will commence shortly after the update debuts, which will run until 8:00 pm PT / 11:00 pm ET.
Once the maintenance period is over, Nintendo Switch Online memberships will be available for purchase. Online services are currently free, but the company announced a while back that it would be switching to a paid subscription model. The following are the pricing plans:
1 Month: $3.99 USD / €3.99 / 300 yen
3 Months: $7.99 USD / €7.99 / 800 yen
12 Months: $19.99 USD / €19.99 / 2,400 yen
12 Months: $34.99 / €34.99 / 4,500 yen
A Switch Online membership will allow players to play with other players around the world, as well as gain access to 20 NES games with added online play for the first time ever. Nintendo will also be adding more games to the list regularly, though for now we know the service will include the likes of The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Bros. and Donkey Kong.
