While it’s been a while since we’ve gotten any updates on the Final Fantasy 7 remake, it looks like next year will finally be when that changes following the launch of Kingdom Hearts 3. However, it looks like there’s potential for other Final Fantasy 7-related games to make a comeback, as well.
Tetsuya Nomura recently spoke at an event celebrating the release of The World Ends With You Final Remix. At the event, a fan told him that he would like to be able to play Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 on modern hardware. Nomura said that currently his entire focus is on Kingdom Hearts 3, but there have been discussions in the past with producer Yoshinori Kitase about bringing back the spin-offs to accompany the remake’s release.
Of the spin-offs that are available, Crisis Core is definitely the most popular. That game served as a prequel to the game, delving into Cloud’s relationship with Zack. Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy 7 is another spin-off, though that one received a mediocre response from both fans and critics.
It’s no confirmation at this point, but it looks like there’s definitely some talk behind the scenes to bring back Final Fantasy 7-related games. Whether or not that ends up happening remains to be seen, but we’ll bring you more information on that as soon as it becomes available.
