Prima Games and their strategy guides have been around for nearly three decades, but, sadly, their time is coming to an end. It has been revealed that the company is shutting down, with the company being officially gone by Spring 2019.
The closure was announced by parent company Dorling Kindersley, with the Roseville, Indianapolis and New York offices all shutting down. This will begin with the shuttering of the Roseville office soon, and the Indianapolis office will have a small selection of staff stay on until March 2019. The fate of the New York office is currently unknown.
A spokesperson of the company said the following (via Variety):
“I can confirm that the decision has been made to no longer commission new Prima Games strategy guides and the U.S.-based imprint will be discontinued in Spring 2019. We are in conversations with the Prima Games team and cannot comment on this further at this point.”
While it’s unfortunate to hear, it was only a matter of time before something like this happened. With the huge rise in gaming YouTube content, along with free guides on places like GameFAQS, print guides that you have to pay for are pretty much obsolete. It’s impressive that they’ve managed to stick around for this long, but come Spring 2019 they’ll officially be no more. Considering they’ve been around since 1990, it’s definitely safe to say they had a truly impressive run.
