Unsurprisingly, Miyamoto believes that the Super Mario movie will be quite good

It is now possible to read the official translation of Nintendo’s Q&A session from its most recent financial briefing online. The translation contains some intriguing, if not entirely unexpected, details about the company’s plans for the upcoming fiscal year.

Naturally, Shigeru Miyamoto was present, along with Shuntaro Furukawa, Shinya Takahashi, Satoru Shibata, Ko Shiota, and Hajime Murakami. The former shared his opinions on the upcoming Super Mario Bros. Movie, specifically why he believes that audiences will enjoy it:

“For The Super Mario Bros. Movie, I have been working together with Mr. Chris Meledandri, the founder and CEO of Illumination, from the start, through seven years of planning and six years of production. During that time, we have thought a lot about the appeal of transforming games into films and about what audiences are looking for.

“With novels and comics, people have already enjoyed their stories, so I think movie adaptations guarantee a certain amount of enjoyment. But with video games, it is the gaming experience that makes them compelling, so a movie that adheres to the story of a game will not necessarily be interesting. Moreover, people who have played the game will expect a movie experience that is faithful to their memories of the game, while those who have never played the game will expect a movie that is enjoyable as an independent piece of entertainment.

“We spent a significant amount of time trying to figure out how to overcome these two challenges. While it is a bit presumptuous to say so myself, I think we managed to get it right, so I hope you will enjoy the movie.”

Although it comes as little surprise that one of the film’s creative minds believes it will turn out well, Miyamoto’s justification is actually quite compelling. The Super Mario Bros. video game adaptation appears to avoid the common mistake of simply retelling stories that gamers are already familiar with. The direction of the film will be very different.

Let’s hope everything turns out okay!

Diablo 4’s post-launch support will keep you playing for years, according to Blizzard. General manager Rod Fergusson confirmed two expansions and free content updates.

“As I sit here, we’re about to launch the main game; we’re finishing up season one; we’re working on season two; we’re working on expansion one; we’re kicking off expansion two,” he told PC Gamer on the Kinda Funny Xcast. These two DLCs may release sooner than expected. Fergusson says the live service model lets Blizzard release content faster than Diablo III.

With tens of hours of content in the base game, Diablo 4 is massive. This could be Destiny 2 or Genshin Impact, with seasons and DLC. That thought excites or frightens you. Leave a comment and check out our Diablo 4 guide for help with the PS5 and PS4 games.
