It appears like publisher Ubisoft is once again in difficulty after the unexpected announcement of Skull & Bones’ postponement and the cancellation of three upcoming games last week.
Following remarks made by CEO Yves Guillemot, the French labor union Solidaires Informatique has called for a strike by Ubisoft Paris employees (which acts as the company’s headquarters). Guillemot told the workforce in an email that “the ball is in their court” to keep the business solvent, and the email was seen by Kotaku.
According to Solidaires Informatique, Guillemot is making an effort to place the blame for the company’s problems and his own shortcomings on the staff. They believe that strategies like greater managerial pressure and overtime will be used to turn things around.
They claim that even if the employee may have the initiative, “the money stays in his pocket.” You may read the entire declaration here (scroll down for the English translation).
In addition, Solidaires Informatique is urging the establishment of a 4-day workweek to enhance working conditions and an immediate 10% increase in worker pay to account for inflation.
Additionally, the union has issued a strike call, claiming that “Mr. Guillemot and his clique only understand the relationship of power, Solidaires Informatique is calling on the employees of Ubisoft Paris to go on strike on Friday, 27 January, in the afternoon, from 2 to 6 pm.”
How Ubisoft will respond to Solidaires Informatique’s statement and how many workers will walk out on the scheduled date are still unknown. Benefits for staff members worldwide may be the consequence of concessions obtained at the corporate headquarters. We’ll keep you informed as the situation develops.
