One more of Atari’s long-forgotten favorites is being brought back with the addition of a new game to its Recharged lineup. Recently, Caverns of Mars Recharged, a contemporary version of the vintage arcade vertical shooter, was released.
In the game Caverns of Mars, you are tasked with entering perilous tunnel networks and planting a bomb at the bottom. As your bomb’s timer runs out, you’ll need to quickly return to the surface while simultaneously blasting away at enemies and defenses on your way down. You must exercise restraint, though, as firing drains your fuel supply.
With new stages that have completely destructible environments and new threats, this new version completely revamps the original release’s core idea. Additionally, it features new weapons and power-ups, local two-player co-op, arcade mode, challenge mode, and modern graphics and a soundtrack. Caverns of Mars will include online leaderboards so you can compete for best times and scores, just like Atari’s other Recharged releases.
On March 9, 2023, the game will launch on both the PS5 and PS4, so it won’t be too long. Will you board this newly revived classic?
