APEX Season 3 finalists KongDoo Panthera have signed with Cloud9, adding another full team to their roster. This comes a few weeks after the official announcement that owner Jack Etienne is bringing the team to London for the Overwatch League, and the signing of European team Laser Kittenz.
KongDoo lost an impressive 3-4 to Lunatic-Hai (who will be playing for South Korea’s OWL team) in the APEX Season 3 finals. They are currently undefeated in Season 4. They will finish out the rest of the season under their new name, C9 KongDoo.
In the official announcement, Etienne said of KongDoo: “Panthera’s run in Season 3 was nothing short of incredible, and the skills and passion they displayed in the finals are going to be right at home with Cloud9. These guys are fierce competitors and I know they’re going to finish what they started, so we’re really excited for what’s to come.”
The full roster will be representing C9, which consists of:
Kim “birdring” Ji-hyuk (DPS)
Kim “Rascal” Dong-jun (DPS)
Lee “Curious” Yeong-min (DPS)
Kang “Void” Jun-woo (Tank)
Baek “Fissure” Chan-hyung (Tank)
Seung “Bdosin” Choi-tae (Flex)
An “wakawaka” Jee-ho (Support)
This marks a crucial moment for the rest of the players currently under contract with Cloud9. The 4 players that formerly made up Laser Kittenz (Nevix, Kyb, mowzassa, and Greyy) will have a lot to prove before Cloud9 finalizes their Overwatch League roster. Cloud9’s North American team, consisting of Surefour, Adam, Roolf, Gods, and xepheR, looks inactive with all the players searching elsewhere for a new team. Bishop, from South Korea himself, departed NA C9 to join C9 KongDoo. Considering the language barrier, it’s unlikely that any parts of the teams will be merged, so it’ll be interesting to see who Cloud9 brings to the inaugural season of the Overwatch League. Considering past performances, it seems like KongDoo is on another level. The former Laser Kittenz will most likely see a lot of bench time and lower-tier tournaments in the upcoming months.
