Ridley Scott made his directorial debut in 1965. He has since gone on to brighten up the big screen with his works. His career has spanned over 50 years. Ridley is due to turn 80 this year, but doesn’t look to be retiring any time soon. From a humble background in the North of England Scott quickly made a name for himself. His films are wide and ranging in genre, from Thelma and Louise to Alien. This is one guy who isn’t afraid to take on a challenge, which may be the reason he has been selected to direct a war epic on the Battle of Britain. This is not a subject matter for the faint of heart.

What was the Battle of Britain?

The Battle of Britain was a large military campaign that took place during the Second World War. Until this point battles had mainly taken place on land. But this campaign was the first large scale battle to take to the skies. Led by the Royal Air Force, this campaign saw the British army take on Germany. Taking place in British airspace in 1940 the battle lasted for 3 months and 3 days. Airborne campaigns followed throughout the war, with the Blitz soon following this initial battle. Britain’s resilience during these air raids was hailed by many as a turning point in the war effort.

What do we know so far?

In 1969 Guy Hamilton directed a film about the Battle of Britain, a film that saw him nominated for a Bafta. 20th Century Fox have announced that they are taking on the challenge of bringing it back to the big screen. The film will see Ridley Scott team up with fellow Brit Matthew Orton. Orton is a fresh face, with no big releases to his name. His last piece of work, Operation Finale, was also based on the drama of World War Two. While Orton may sound like a wild card he may be just what the film needs. Pairing Hollywood royalty with a fresh young talent this, film is already showing promise.

Proud geek since 1988. I'm never happier than when I am enjoying a good film. Of course, as a Brit, the film watching experience is always better with a nice cup of tea.

There hasn’t been much buzz lately about any new acquisitions in the world of video game intellectual property. According to a recent report, Sony is currently engaged in discussions with a well-funded partner to potentially acquire the renowned film studio Paramount, along with all the exciting possibilities that come with such a merger.

As reported in the New York Times (thanks, ResetEra), Sony Picture Entertainment is reportedly in discussions with Apollo Global Management, an investment firm, as per two sources familiar with the matter. In the past, Apollo had made an offer to acquire Paramount for a minimum of $26 billion, but their bid was ultimately turned down.

The terms of the joint bid are currently under discussion, and there is a chance that the two parties may decide against making a formal offer. Unnamed sources have revealed that Paramount is currently in exclusive discussions with Skydance, preventing any official offer from being made at this time. Investor opposition to the recent deal that Skydance brought seems to have been significant.

The potential impact of such an acquisition is immense. First and foremost, it would introduce adaptations of Sonic and Halo into the expanding media empire of the PlayStation platform holder. Following the announcement, Paramount’s stock experienced a significant 11% surge in after-hours trading.
