After a tiring week of work we always wait for that moment of the weekend when, we can sit back on our couch and just relax. And we all know that music is beneficial for our state of mind, so why not choose the perfect song. For this weekend I picked for you a little dose of good old fashioned Irish pub vibe with the song Rose Tattoo from Dropkick Murphys.
The American Celtic punk band Dropkick Murphy’s has been around since 1996, writing songs about the working class and supporting union causes in a unique traditional Irish style. The band’s name was inspired by Dr. John “Dropkick” Murphy, a professional wrestler, doctor of osteopathic medicine and owner of an alcoholic rehabilitation facility in Massachusetts. Band members grew up in Boston and have Irish roots, so they admit their melodies are influenced by old Irish music, but nonetheless that’s what makes them stand out in the punk scene.
The song Rose Tattoo was inspired by a tattoo that Ken Casey, the band’s bassist has on his arm, which is a memorial for his grandfather. After Casey’s father has died, he was raised by his grandfather who was a proud and respectful man. This song has an Irish pub vibe, that makes us feel like we’re enjoying a beer alongside friends, while talking about childhood memories.
Although the song is about the importance of family and the pride of carrying your family’s name, it still has a positive style that makes us want to sing along. It doesn’t matter if we’re thinking about our blood relatives or the family we make ourselves, as long as we learn to cherish these people who support us no matter what, we understand the message of this lovely song.
