7 Things to Keep in Mind Before Going to College

High school does a great job when it comes to getting ready for college life. However, your new routine can still be a real shock for you. In order to get the most of your college or university experience, check some of the top things that you have to keep in mind before college enrollment.

Time Flies

It’s no doubt that you think that 4 years is a really long period of time. But the reality is that time in college goes pretty fast. You will see how settled-in you are when it’s time to visit home after the first semester. So do your best to enjoy college life while you still have a chance. It’s the best time in your life, after all. Make lifelong friends and feel what it’s like to be really free. Don’t focus on trivial matters, you will have time to get caught up on them after graduation.

College Can Be Tough

Despite what you might hear here and there that college is just a never-ending party, nobody graduates without some sleepless nights and solid efforts. It’s not easy and you will have to work hard and challenge yourself more often than not. Be ready to find yourself thinking, “I have to do my research paper but I don’t know how…” and looking for custom college writing help from online experts who can produce top-notch written pieces. College tutors and professors are not going to hold your hand and remind you that it’s time to purchase a new notebook or accomplish a book review.

It Is Important to Manage Your Money Wisely

Even if you’re lucky to get a loan for all of your living expenses, you will have to learn to manage your finances effectively. Make sure you don’t end up blowing your money in the first week and struggling for the rest of your semester.

People Come and Go

When it comes to getting along with others, college is not quite like your high school. However, it may still take time to get comfortable in a new environment and find some friends. For instance, your initial acquaintances in college aren’t likely to end up becoming lifelong friendships. However, some of them may eventually become your besties.

Unfortunately, you might also meet some people who will turn out to be unfriendly and make your academic experience less enjoyable. There’s nothing wrong with it. College years are the time when you learn to socialize with many different people not only in an academic environment but also in all areas of life.

Eating Healthy Is a Must

It may not apply to you, but the reality is that for many, college is the first time when you become responsible for what you eat and when. If you have poor eating habits, you may end up having a range of medical conditions let alone some extra pounds that students tend to gain in their first year.

If you’re going to live on burgers and pizza, it is important to try to learn some key dishes before you enroll. If you do so, you will be able to maintain both your health and weight. Having poor eating habits, along with a lack of workouts and excessive parting, will inevitably impact your mental and physical health, as well as your academic performance.

There’s Nothing Wrong with Changing Colleges/Majors

College is the place where you learn and polish various skills that help you become part of the chosen field of study. It’s OK if, at some point, you realize you have made the wrong choice and feel like it’s better to change your major or even college. What is more, there is nothing wrong with dropping out and getting back to studies in two or three years’ time. After all, it is always better to get it right than to get stuck in a college or degree that you hate.

Domestic Skills Are Important

For many college and university students, the first academic year might be the first time that they spend away from mom and dad, and the number of weekly tasks to simply maintain your lifestyle can be quite tough.

For that reason, high school graduates should begin to work on their domestic routine before they start attending college.

At least ensure you know how to:

  • Cook a couple of different meals (making coffee doesn’t count!)
  • Do laundry
  • Pay your bills on the web
  • Keep your room well-organized and tidy
  • Buy food based on what you’re going to cook
  • Mend clothes

If you find yourself overwhelmed with the variety of products at the local store, make sure to create shopping lists that will include different nutritional items. In contrast to what most college students think, pizza doesn’t count as something that contains salad.

Remember, this is a wonderful time of your life!

The college will bring you a great experience of learning and becoming the best possible version of yourself in so many ways. Just keep in mind the issues mentioned above to make this experience as enjoyable as possible.

Who doesn’t enjoy listening to a good story. Personally I love reading about the people who inspire me and what it took for them to achieve their success. As I am a bit of a self confessed tech geek I think there is no better way to discover these stories than by reading every day some articles or the newspaper . My bookcases are filled with good tech biographies, they remind me that anyone can be a success. So even if you come from an underprivileged part of society or you aren’t the smartest person in the room we all have a chance to reach the top. The same message shines in my beliefs. All it takes to succeed is a good idea, a little risk and a lot of hard work and any geek can become a success. VENI VIDI VICI .
