As of the publishing of this article, Blizzard has yet to announce the existence of these new Overwatch art books, but the Amazon listings look pretty legit so we can pretty much guarantee that you’ll be able to get your hands on these pricey art collections on October 24th.
I mentioned that the Overwatch art books are pricey, but the standard edition will only set you back $50 which I don’t feel is asking too much for a product of this sort of quality. The deluxe limited edition, however, will set you back $100 and is intended for the most devoted fans of the Overwatch universe.
The deluxe limited edition “comes packaged in a beautiful clamshell box with magnetic closure and includes an acetate slipcover featuring the game’s most popular hero, Tracer.” It will also feature “two portfolios containing a total of three prints chosen by the Overwatch team”.
Those who can’t get enough of the lore will be happy to hear of the launch of the Dark Horse comic anthology in addition to the Overwatch art books. That anthology will arrive a little earlier on October 10th.
Overwatch’s art style is definitely one of the strong points of the game, which is not surprising considering the high quality of all of Blizzard’s IPs. The art style is a bit of a departure from Blizzard’s previous entries, however, opting for a more realistic style that’s beautifully rendered and takes full advantage of the technology 2017 has to offer.
Overwatch merchandise is constantly flying off the shelves, so these Overwatch art books are sure to make a big splash. Launching it just a few weeks after the release of the Overwatch Dark Horse comic anthology is also a good idea, as devoted fans will be finished with the comics and clamoring for more Overwatch art goodness to satiate their appetite.
Overwatch is already one of Blizzard’s biggest IPs, so a constant steady stream of official merchandise will do wonders for the company financially (not that they were struggling!). With a cast of recognizable and lovable heroes, the Overwatch art books are a great idea to add to the growing roster of physical swag for this digital game.
