Sony has done it again! After launching the overpriced Walkman at CES 2015 in January, Sony decided to follow up with just as expensive earphones. I am aware of the fact that the Sony Walkman is geared towards audiophiles and comes with great hardware and software, but these earphones might not be worth the $2500 price that Sony just slapped on them. That exorbitant price is motivated, as with the Walkman, by high attention to detail and specialized hardware to provide the best audio experience, even with in-ear earphones.
The Sony earphones cost about $2500, but you have to pay an extra $70 to have them fitted for your ear. As earphones are usually hard to get accustomed to or getting the right size, Sony decided that these customizable earphones would be great for audiophiles who want perfect noise cancellation and audio experience. But does that warrant the above $2500 price tag? That’s more expensive than the overpriced Sony Walkman, for Pete’s sake.
The earphones are geared towards audiophiles and Sony says they come with either three modes, Listening, Monitor and Club Mode, there will be another version which will allow the user to customize the earphones according to the environment they are in. Although I love listening to music, I wouldn’t ever pay that much for in-ear earphones especially. When Sony thinks there’s a market for something, especially if we’re talking audio gear, there usually is, so there will be preorders for the Just Ear earphones, no doubt.
The expensive earphones were announced in Japan last year, but just now are they making their way to the U.S. market. For now, they are only available in Japan, but they will be made available internationally in a couple of weeks, according to insiders. These might be the most expensive earphones on the planet, but don’t quote me on that please. The Just Ear earphones are CIEM earphones with high-end noise cancellation and extremely good quality audio playback, so you are getting top-notch gear for that high price.
