iPhone 7 to feature 12 MP camera according to sources close to the matter

Despite what many people would claim Apple is not exactly known for innovating the industry, at least not anymore. This is most obvious when looking at the iPhone series, which for better or worse has seen only small technical jumps pretty much ever since its inception. Therefore, it should be no surprise that the upcoming iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are expected to feature only the slightest of improvements over their predecessors. However, one certain improvement might actually be pretty big depending on who you ask, as the primary camera on these devices will reportedly jump from 8 MP to 12 MP if sources close to the matter or to be believed. It’s unclear if the sources in question are actually involved with the development process of the iPhone 7, but they are considered to have a good reputation within the industry so perhaps we should listen to what they have to say.
Earlier this week KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo stirred up a wave of interest upon claiming that Apple’s next flagship will mark the first major improvement in terms of camera ever since 2011 when the iPhone 4S was released. Since that time Apple has been using the same 8 MP rear-facing shooter on all its flagship smartphones including the latest iterations, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Kuo claims that the Cupertino-based company is finally ready to move on and will equip both the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus with 12 MP cameras, a rumor that was more recently also backed up by IHS Technology Research Director Kevin King. This may sound like good news to most people, however, Kevin mentioned that the larger camera on both iPhone 7 models will also have smaller pixels, which may or may not bring down the better picture quality.
Seeing as how the software – among other factors – also plays a large role when it comes to a smartphone’s camera capabilities, we shouldn’t make any predictions just yet based solely on the pixel size or count. For the common folks though, this will probably sound like very good news given that fans have requested more megapixels on the camera for ages now. As always, all iPhone 7 rumors should be taken with a grain of salt and this is no exception. It’s also worth pointing out that the next flagship might go by the name iPhone 6S as per tradition, although there are also plenty of reports claiming otherwise. In any case, whether it’s called iPhone 7 or iPhone 6S we should see the first camera bump in a long time on the next iteration of Apple’s flagship smartphone. That is, if all these rumors are to be believed of course.

Sony Expects 108 Million PS5 Sales This Generation

After the COVID-19 supply collapse, Sony CEO Jim Ryan is optimistic about PS5 sales. The Sony executive anticipates the PS5, the best-selling console for months, will sell 108 million units.
That’s difficult stuff considering Sony needs to sell 70 million more PS5s. Since supply has increased, consoles are selling like hotcakes in major countries, suggesting the firm is above 40 million.
Ryan stated in a recent games business briefing webcast and Q&A (thanks, TweakTown):
“The 70 million, I think, is the existing PlayStation 4 user base, and while we would hope to convert a large number of those people, we will definitely target and definitely be successful in bringing large numbers of gamers who did not own a PlayStation 4, and in many instances, who have never owned a PlayStation at all.”
Mr. Ryan’s numbers—should we focus on the 108 part?

PlayStation Studios’ PC Games to Grow Beyond FY22

PlayStation Studios PC sales were announced in Sony’s Business Segment Meeting, along with PSVR2 sales, PS Plus numbers, and major PS5 game release dates.
Spider-Man Remastered and The Last of Us: Part 1 led the pack with 1.5 million and 368K sales, respectively. Maybe it was worthwhile.
Sony expects this trend to continue (see that graph!). and will remain bullish on PC ports (quietly jacking prices in some places), but has stated that PS5 is the priority. The PlayStation Showcase, less than 24 hours away, may bring more PC announcements.
PlayStation Studios’ PC success—what do you think?
