It’s official. The great Marvel overlords ruling over your wallets with an iron fist have made the best choice they’ve had all year. Netflix’s Daredevil has been revived for a second series which I thought was unlikely due to Marvel being content to cram everything into their cinematic universe but thankfully I was wrong.
The show runners are changing with Stephen DeKnight being replaced by Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez who worked on the first season of the show with DeKnight and Goddard. It’s not possible to know yet if there will be any major changes but I assume the show should stay much the same in the way of tone and writing quality.
It has been set for 2016 and will most likely be running at a similar time to Marvel’s Luke Cage series. Personally I think it was the best choice to revive Daredevil for a second series purely as there would be no reason to not make more use of him before The Defenders crossover as opposed to waiting until 2017 to see any more of the man without fear.
In an interview with Empire Charlie Cox spoke about his hopes for season two:
“I have to be careful because we just got commissioned so I have no idea who is going to turn up based on the show we’ve created, which is very grounded in reality, I’d like to see Punisher maybe show up, a little bit of Elektra maybe. I wouldn’t mind Black Widow making an appearance, and you can’t think about Daredevil for too long without thinking of Bullseye. I don’t know when or if or how that would happen, but it’d be cool if it did.”
With any luck this should be even stronger than the first one now that the world, main characters and plot points are established to further. As for what I thought of the first series?
Well, I’ll tell you on May 1st with my personal pitch for season 2 not long after!
