Square Enix’s MMO Final Fantasy XIV will be receiving it’s next expansion, Stormblood in June. With Stormblood comes new character classes, abilities and locations for players to travel to and quest in. Stormblood is the second expansion to Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn and will also release with a new 4.0 update. Square Enix has released a new trailer today showcasing some of the expansion’s new areas.
The Stormblood expansion will be adding a new continent to the game titled Othard that will feature new areas and dungeons. One of these new regions is a city titled “Rhalgr’s Reach” and consists of an outdoor area with large waterfalls and indoor areas as well. Rhalgr’s Reach serves as the main city in the expansion and it is also the hub of operations for the Ala Mhigan Resistance.
The next area shown is called “The Fringes” and consists of some woodland areas that feature bright plant life, canyons and rock formations. There isn’t much information given by Square about this new location except for its visual features. “The Peaks” is another section shown and as the name suggests it features a mountainous region high up in elevation that contains a fortress or city of some sort near its top.
“Kugane” is the next region shown it is a city that takes influence from old Eastern architecture and culture in its look. Kugane is a port city that is known for its docks used for foreign trading. The Ruby Sea is the next location that is shown in the trailer and it is a more open area that features open waters for players to explore. This area will utilize the new ability to dive underwater and will come with a new dungeon. The Dungeon is called “Shisui of the Violent Tides” and it is a 4-man instance that takes place entirely underwater.
Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood will release worldwide on June 20, 2017 for the PC and Playstation 4 platforms.
