The battle royale genre has been a massive success lately, getting a huge launch with PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) and then being taken to the next level with Fortnite: Battle Royale. Many developers are taking notice and attempting to get their games on the bandwagon, and the next game could be Call of Duty.
This rumor comes from Charlie Intel, which is a very reliable source for all Call of Duty rumors. They claim that their sources tell them that a battle royale mode will be coming to Black Ops 4, though the specifics on how it will work were not mentioned. This genre is typically played in a third-person perspective, so it will be interesting to see if Black Ops 4 allows for a third-person view or just sticks with the first-person perspective.
While it makes sense from a business perspective, a battle royale mode doesn’t seem like the best fit for the Call of Duty series. The series is most known for a multiplayer mode with small maps and matches that start and end relatively quickly. A battle royale mode is a much longer affair that is much less action-packed than what CoD typically offers, but I guess they could put their own spin on it and make it work.
We’ll be getting much more information on Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 at E3 2018. The game is in development by Treyarch for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
