The latest patch for Cyberpunk 2077 improves the PS5’s visuals

Patch 1.6.1, the most current update for Cyberpunk 2077, came out around a week ago, but Digital Foundry’s slackers have just now gotten around to telling us if it adds any noteworthy features for PS5. Of course, we’re joking, but the patch notes for the aforementioned upgrade to the current-gen console included something about “support for AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.1,” and we’ve been eager to hear Digital Foundry’s opinion on it.

AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.1 is just a brilliant piece of technology that enables improved upscaling during gameplay, frequently improving performance. With the addition of patch 1.6.1, this method has now been included to Cyberpunk 2077 on the PS5, and it seems to affect both graphics modes differently.

FSR2 does produce a clearer image, even though the game’s native resolution doesn’t experience any appreciable improvements, especially during “still periods.” According to Digital Foundry, “FSR2 does genuinely improve image quality, whether it be in static shots, in motion, in dealing with aliasing, or even in instances of disocclusion — where objects in the foreground move, revealing previously hidden detail” Cyberpunk 2077 on PS5 now looks better than ever in general thanks to this update.

Character hair and other little features are now handled better while the game streams its assets, in the meantime. They occasionally still kind of drift back into reality, but it seems to be less distracting. Overall, the visual clarity in Night City will be enhanced, which is fantastic.

According to Digital Foundry, FSR2 is a net win for all new consoles because it intelligently selects the details we want to be enhanced while also addressing image issues like ghosting on movement and flickering on hair. There is also more stability, less distraction, and a greater push for detail at range.

Has the change affected how you’ve been playing Cyberpunk 2077? Have you seen any of these upgrades? In the remarks box below, go back to Night City.

Returnal developer Housemarque will move into a fancy new studio by the end of next year.

Finland’s longest-running game developer, founded in 1995 and based in Helsinki. Housemarque says it wants to move to Helsinki and create “the Nordics’ most advanced gaming headquarters” in a new blog post. The studio wants to be a “testament to our rich gaming legacy” and a “beacon of innovation and creativity in the Northernmost capital”.

Brand director Mikael Haveri calls the studio’s modern, expensive workspace more than just a “shiny new office”. The post states, “We are creating an environment that merges Nordic sensibilities with creativity, aiming to attract the world’s best game developers,” with cutting-edge meeting rooms, audio studios, testing areas, and wellness spaces.

In addition, Housemarque wants the new studio to be green. “Our revamped hub will champion green initiatives, balancing technology and planetary care,” it says. “As we embark on this transformative journey, we’re committed to solidifying our gameplay innovation position.”

It sounds great, but we won’t see it until 2024.

Another PS Studios team gets a workplace makeover. Media Molecule’s Guildford office was completely renovated, and Firesprite moved into a modern studio like Housemarque’s. Further back, Guerrilla Games moved to a fancy studio in 2021. Sony appears to be investing heavily in its teams’ work environments to ensure the best conditions.

Housemarque has several job openings and may expand if its new home is larger. We’ll find out next year, but the Finnish studio appears to be improving.
