A Video Analysis of the Game-Changing Soundtrack to God of War: Ragnarok
The sound design in Sony’s first-party games is almost always excellent, yet this fact is rarely mentioned. PlayStation Studios’ dedication to producing high-quality audio is seen in the work of foley artists like Joanna Fang, who has contributed to the sound of the platform’s most expensive exclusives.
She and her extraordinary Foley Lab, where she makes sound effects ranging from the ordinary to the fantastical using everyday materials, are featured in the above video from Wired. Her studio is jam-packed with products and materials of all sizes and forms, and she uses them to create all the in-game noises we don’t even notice. The film is a 10-minute description of her role, using God of War: Ragnarok as the primary example; we get to watch how she recreates sounds of various kinds, from leather shifting as a figure walks to a skull being crushed beneath Thor’s hammer.
It’s a fascinating glimpse into a normally hidden corner of game development. It’s amazing to see this well-known technique for creating sound effects being put to such good use at PlayStation Studios.

The latest trailer for Sony Pictures Entertainment’s CGI film Resident Evil: Death Island, released July 25, features the outlandish action and melodrama that made the franchise a cult sensation.
This Resident Evil Avengers-esque team-up features Leon S. Kennedy, Jill Valentine, Chris Redfield, Claire Redfield, and Rebecca Chambers.
The T-Virus and killer whales take the gang to Alcatraz in San Francisco Bay, where a new nightmare awaits. In magnificent slow motion and with progressively heavier ordinance, the Dream Team will supposedly destroy zombies, Lickers, mutant orcas, and anything else foolish or nasty enough to stand in their path.
Sony’s PS5 firmware update is everyone’s favorite news story. It’s been a while, but don’t get too excited—this is just a minor one. No biggie.
PS5 system software 23.01-07.40.00 does what? Latest firmware patch notes:
- System software performance and stability increased.
- We improved screen messaging and usability.
That’s it! Sony’s definition of “some screens” is unclear, but perhaps it improves communications. PS5 messages weren’t a problem, though. The update is barely over 1GB, so updating your console won’t take long.

“Regarding remakes of previous games in the series other than Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, we will listen to player demand and consider accordingly,” a Konami official told IGN.
Konami explained that “we chose Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater because it depicts the birth of Big Boss (Naked Snake), which is the starting point of the Metal Gear series.” Fans wishing it would last forever contributed.
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, yes? Maybe you’ll buy another disc to show Konami you’ll pay again?
