Firewall Zero Hour, First Contact Entertainment’s PSVR tactical shooter, seemed promising. The developer’s remarkable long-term post-launch support kept a tiny but dedicated player pool motivated. Firewall Ultra, a sequel coming to PSVR2 later this year, has fans excited. It’ll use the new headset’s features and the latest tech to make the game look its best.

First Contact’s in-depth interview on the Unreal Engine website reveals the forthcoming FPS will be produced in Unreal Engine 5.  Epic’s new engine will power one of the first VR titles.

The team used “far more advanced shaders” since UE5 allowed them to add loads of real-time lighting and deferred rendering. It should be beautiful and run well.

The game will also leverage PSVR2’s eye-tracking features. This feature lets you choose weapons from menus by looking at them, as well as aim grenade throws. Haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and finger sensing employ the Sense controllers.

For more, read the whole interview. The PSVR2 version may look great. Firewall Ultra—excited?

After the COVID-19 supply collapse, Sony CEO Jim Ryan is optimistic about PS5 sales. The Sony executive anticipates the PS5, the best-selling console for months, will sell 108 million units.

That’s difficult stuff considering Sony needs to sell 70 million more PS5s. Since supply has increased, consoles are selling like hotcakes in major countries, suggesting the firm is above 40 million.

Ryan stated in a recent games business briefing webcast and Q&A (thanks, TweakTown):

“The 70 million, I think, is the existing PlayStation 4 user base, and while we would hope to convert a large number of those people, we will definitely target and definitely be successful in bringing large numbers of gamers who did not own a PlayStation 4, and in many instances, who have never owned a PlayStation at all.”

Mr. Ryan’s numbers—should we focus on the 108 part?

PlayStation Studios PC sales were announced in Sony’s Business Segment Meeting, along with PSVR2 sales, PS Plus numbers, and major PS5 game release dates.

Spider-Man Remastered and The Last of Us: Part 1 led the pack with 1.5 million and 368K sales, respectively. Maybe it was worthwhile.

Sony expects this trend to continue (see that graph!). and will remain bullish on PC ports (quietly jacking prices in some places), but has stated that PS5 is the priority. The PlayStation Showcase, less than 24 hours away, may bring more PC announcements.

PlayStation Studios’ PC success—what do you think?
