The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 phablet is finally getting its first real taste of Android 5.0.1 Lollipop. The update is just now slowly making its way over-the-air and seems to only be available to users from Poland for the time being. But even if you live in Poland, it will probably take a while until it reaches your Samsung Galaxy Note 4 considering that OTA updates are usually being rolled out in batches over several weeks. That said, it’s good to see that Samsung’s fourth generation phablet is finally getting Android 5.0.1 Lollipop even if it’s only available in a single country for now.
Interestingly, the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 seems to be skipping Android 5.0 Lollipop entirely and jumping straight to 5.0.1. Presumably, the device will also skip Android 5.0.2 Lollipop as it doesn’t really bring anything interesting to the table, but we’ll just have to wait and see. For now though, we should speculate less about future updates and focus on the one currently rolling. Android 5.0.1 Lollipop brings a lot of improvements and features to the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, including lockscreen notifications, more battery life, better performance, Material Design, and more. In addition, Samsung apparently listened to the community for once and worked on improving the TouchWiz user interface, which looks surprisingly good with Android 5.0.1 Lollipop. The improved look comes in no small part as a result of Google’s Material Design itself, but we do have to give props to Samsung for borrowing a lot of design elements from stock Android rather than being stubborn and giving us a wildly different and bloated user interface like they did on more than one occasion in the past.
Although Android 5.0.1 Lollipop is only available to Polish Samsung Galaxy Note 4 phablets for now, we expect the update to also start rolling out to other countries across Europe in the near future. As for a U.S. release date, stateside users may have to wait a while longer before the update becomes available to them, but we hope that it won’t take more than a couple of weeks. Sammobile reports that Android 5.0.1 Lollipop for Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is not up on Kies at this time, so you will have to wait until the OTA reaches your device. Alternatively, if you don’t want to dwindle your thumbs all day waiting for the update you can also manually check for it by going to Settings -> About phone -> Software updates menu and pressing the Check Now button every once in a while.
