The Nvidia Shield Tablet is one of the most appreciated tablets of all time, even though it is geared at Android gaming and gaming in general. People tend to choose the Nvidia Shield Tablet over other tablets because of its near-stock user interface and powerful Tegra K1 chipset and hardware, but that might soon be challenged by a new player. Acer is planning to seriously compete against the Nvidia Shield Tablet with a gaming tablet of its own, but there aren’t many details available about the new slate from Acer. According to various rumors and teasers, the Nvidia Shield Tablet competitor will benefit from a rugged design that resembles Razer machines if anything.
Acer is not big in the U.S. right now, and it’s definitely not a huge player when it comes to the smartphone and tablet market. But the company does have the technology necessary to try and compete with the Nvidia Shield Tablet and now seems the opportune time for that as people are getting more and more into Android gaming in general. As ForgeTV goes up for preorders, the interest in Android gaming will definitely rise over the next few months. Acer is planning to take advantage of that with a brand new 8 inch gaming tablet that should be launched in the fourth quarter of 2015. Check out the Acer Predator hands-on video below, and be sure to turn on subtitles, cause it’s in German.
The Acer Predator is going to attempt to outdo what Nvidia did with the Nvidia Shield Tablet last year, and its name is already pretty enticing to me. Hey, check out Predator, my new gaming tablet! Sounds fun, doesn’t it? The Acer Predator will get an 8 inch display, most likely with QHD or at least FHD resolution and it will sport an unusual design that resembles a rectangle. According to Acer, who introduced the gaming tablet at their press event in New York today, the Acer Predator Nvidia Shield Tablet competitor will borrow from the Apple Watch and other new devices and employ some kind of haptic feedback technology. Just like a controller vibrating in your hands when you get a neat combo.
One of the features I’m most curious about and what will definitely outdo the Nvidia Shield Tablet is the speaker setup. Acer says that there are four front-facing speakers on the Predator, which should definitely provide for high quality sound while gaming and doing other neat stuff you can do on a tablet. Like watching movies or something. We’re excited to find out more about the Predator, but Acer is kind of mum on the details. We should be getting more out of the company soon enough as the Acer Predator should begin leaking soon enough.
