Sony’s PlayStation 4 hit another record in sales with over 30 million units sold

Only two years had passed since the release of PlayStation 4 and Sony already sold over 30 million units. Although there were ongoing debates on which console is better PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, PS4 seems to be doing good in terms of sales. But as preferences shouldn’t be discussed, Sony has proudly announced their increase of sales for their PlayStation 4, which is their best yet. The previous record was 100 million units sold and it was the PlayStation 2 over the course of 9 years. At this rate PlayStation 4 will surpass the previous record in just a couple of years.
It’s no wonder that gaming consoles rise at this high rate, because in the last couple of years gaming has become a big part in the entertainment industry and it’s not an ‘underground’ thing anymore it’s sure as hell mainstream now. However Sony has reached the 30 million sold units weeks after Europe, Japan, Australia and North America began to cut their prices on PlayStation 4.
“We are sincerely grateful that gamers across the globe have continued to choose PS4 as the best place to play since launch two years ago. We are committed to bringing engaging games and entertainment services to user’s worldwide.” said Andrew House, Chief Executive at PlayStation.
Of course the recent price drop had a factor in the increased sales of the PlayStation 4, but as the console’s main focus is gaming it surely offers amazing graphics with high end performance. Probably the reason behind choosing the PlayStation 4 instead of the Xbox One is mostly the game titles offered.

PlayStation Studios’ PC Games to Grow Beyond FY22

PlayStation Studios PC sales were announced in Sony’s Business Segment Meeting, along with PSVR2 sales, PS Plus numbers, and major PS5 game release dates.
Spider-Man Remastered and The Last of Us: Part 1 led the pack with 1.5 million and 368K sales, respectively. Maybe it was worthwhile.
Sony expects this trend to continue (see that graph!). and will remain bullish on PC ports (quietly jacking prices in some places), but has stated that PS5 is the priority. The PlayStation Showcase, less than 24 hours away, may bring more PC announcements.
PlayStation Studios’ PC success—what do you think?

Returnal Dev Expands PS5 Project Workforce

PlayStation Studio’s arcade expert is Housemarque, the Finnish developer of Returnal and Resogun. Since joining the first-party family, the company has grown to 110 people, with that number likely to increase as it prepares for whatever comes next (though they don’t make sequels).
Housemarque had 80 employees when acquired and will likely grow. We’re glad Housemarque is rising. After all, the genre’s top developer famously declared arcade games dead not long ago.
Are you excited to see a successful Housemarque? Hope it stays retro?
