We wrote about Rebel Wolves, a recently opened studio, back at the beginning of the year. The Warsaw, Poland-based developer is making an “AAA” dark fantasy RPG for “next-gen consoles,” and some members of its staff have previously worked on CD Projekt Red projects like The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077.
It was obvious from the first announcement that the business was just getting started. Since then, it has been adding new employees and, it turns out, looking for funding.
According to a recent press release, Chinese tech giant NetEase has become a shareholder and partner of the up-and-coming studio Rebel Wolves through a “strategic investment” in the company. For those who may not be aware, NetEase Games, the gaming division of NetEase, is a colossal force in the mobile and PC gaming industries, particularly in its home country of China. In addition, NetEase has been collaborating and investing in foreign businesses for years.
“NetEase’s funding was the final component that was required for full-throttle operation. Now that we have the resources necessary to create a AAA game of the highest caliber, we can concentrate on development, “Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, the leader of the Rebel Wolves, says. For 2023, accurate details on the aforementioned AAA RPG have been promised.
