First up, this is yet again an Apple Watch rant, like the one I’ve written before. I find that these rants are a pleasure to write and they can be informative in a certain way, so let’s see what’s my beef not with the Apple Watch this time, but all the hype around it. First off, MacRumors, one of the most popular Apple-related news site has not published almost anything in the past few weeks that doesn’t concern the Apple Watch. And they are not the only ones. Most news sites, even BBC and Reuters are continuously touting the Apple Watch news coverage on their front pages for technology news.
That wouldn’t be a problem, in general, but the way in which the hype is going about the Apple Watch is absolutely atrocious in my opinion. No matter what news comes out, it has to be about the Apple Watch. Each new app (and there are quite a few) gets its one 1000 word coverage from every possible tech news site that you can find. Every little morsel of an app, something about Jony Ive saying something else about the Apple Watch, BuzzFeed picking up the Apple Watch for testing, people in the store looking at the Apple Watch, reports from thousands of different analysts about the Apple Watch sales, all of that is being repeated and then repeated and that’s why I’m ranting.
I’m rather annoyed and feeling lonely right now, as I have the impression that I’m the only one who is bothered by this turn of events. People are writing about people getting emails from Apple about the Apple Watch. How is that news? If it is news, why report it for every email a person is getting? One news article on a site reports that Apple has been notifying Apple Watch customers that their order was received. The other news article on the same site is talking about an email sent by the Cupertino company to customers notifying them that their order is now being processed. Jeez Louise, I don’t get it.
Am I the only one around here? What I’m thinking about is why other platforms like Android and Windows are not getting the same coverage. To be blunt, they’re not getting a fraction of the coverage the Apple Watch is getting, even though Android and Windows combined have more users than iOS. That’s a guess, don’t quote me on it. Still, there are millions of Windows and Android users out there who follow news sites across the internet and are tired of hearing nothing about anything, except the Apple Watch. I do understand that MacRumors and the others are Apple news sites, but they used to talk about other things like Mac, iMac, OS X, iPod Touch, iPhone 6, iPhone 7 – there’s lots to talk about. So why overpopulate the entire site with Apple Watch news? People will see the apps that they can download in the dedicated store, which has its own news story. More of them actually. What’s the point? Rant over. Let me know how you feel about the enormous hype that is around the Apple Watch as I’m very curious to hear your opinions.
