Welcome back to my fun little list of comic based TV shows that you should give a watch. These aren’t necessarily my favourites, just ones that I would recommend if you’re a fan of comic books and their adaptations.
Lou Ferrigno is without a doubt the undeniable, definitive depiction of the Incredible Hulk. In the days before CGI and when stop motion just plain wouldn’t have worked, what better way to show the difference between David (just go with it) Banner and the incredible Hulk than by having them played by two completely different people.
After all Bill Bixby while certainly a fantastic actor just doesn’t quite measure up to the Hulk in terms of physique, close but no cigar.
So Lou Ferrigno was of course hired and good grief not only is he probably the only man alive that was big enough to look the part, I honestly believe he was the only guy around who could actually play the part. Filmmakers today seem to agree with me as even in the advent of CGI Hulk time after time Lou Ferrigno is always called back to perform the iconic voice of the green bulk.
Lou Ferrigno aside from being probably the biggest bodybuilder to take up acting (yes he was bigger than Schwarzenegger) he presents a raw animalism to the Hulk that actually makes him quite intimidating despite the odd hair and green paint… the haircut is certainly questionable though.
Again thanks to what I’m now dubbing “The Oddball Curse” this show also ended on a cliff hanger, however, unlike all the other shows I’ve mentioned in my previous entries this show actually ended with three television movies years later. It took them six years but hey, they did it. Not only does the show end, it ends in the only logical conclusion. I won’t spoil it, but it is a tear jerker.
