Metal Gear Solid

Last week we have received plenty of new details on Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, the latest entry of the series created by Hideo Kojima launching this September on consoles and PC in all regions, and more on the game is going to come later this week, with a new trailer directed by Hideo Kojima himself and more.

Some new details we haven’t heard before on the open world stealth game have surfaced online a few hours ago thanks to a new Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain preview which has been published on Dutch gaming magazine PU. The new details on the freedom of action players will have in the game are quite spoilerish so you may want to avoid read them if you want the game to be a complete surprise for you when it launches.

“The Phantom Pain is a game that can also suddenly change in a survival horror game when the Skulls decide to thwart your missions. It is also a game that doesn’t eschew to give you the opportunity to kill/attack African child soldiers and face the consequences. The Phantom Pain is more than a game; it is the first real interactive product which differentiates itself completely in a positive way from anything I’ve been able to play previous generations.(Sorry, Bloodborne. Not even close.) The Phantom Pain feels like something from the future. And to think that I have only played sixteen hours and that you can easily invest ten times as much time in the final product if you want to experience everything. Hideo Kojima, you lovable bastard, you; I love you. If the remaing part of the Phantom Pain is as good as the first sixteen hours, then it will not only become the Game of the Year, but perhaps one of the best games of all time. And I say this while being completely sober.”

Last week Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain has been made available for pre-order on the European PlayStation Store. The download size has yet to be revealed but we will definitely hear more about the matter soon. Some new Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain screenshots have also surfaced online last week, showcasing some of the game’s locations as well as characters and more. Unlike today’s new details, the screenshots don’t include any major spoiler so you can check them with fearing getting any surprise ruined.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will finally release in all regions on all formats this September. More on the game will be coming this week during the E3 2015 so stay tuned for all the latest news on the new game from Hideo Kojima and his team.

To keep Apex Legends running for an additional “10 to 15 years,” Respawn opens a third studio

Apex Legends developer Respawn has created a third studio in order to keep the popular battle royale genre running for another “10 to 15 years”. Madison, Wisconsin is where the new studio is situated.

This third studio (the first two being headquartered in Los Angeles and Vancouver) will largely focus on Apex Legends in order to ensure a continuous and, most importantly, sustainable production pipeline. It may, however, contribute to other Respawn products in the future. Ryan Burnett, who previously served as director of engine production at Epic Games and had a distinguished 14-year career at Raven Software, the Call of Duty Studio, will serve as the studio’s head.

Senior VP of operations at Respawn, Daniel Suarez, claims in-depth in an interview with GamesIndustry.biz that “Because we intend to stick with this for the long haul, team health is unquestionably a top priority for us. We’re eager to see Apex become a franchise that endures for ten, fifteen, or more years because we think it will. We can’t just accomplish everything at once, exhaust ourselves, and be unprepared to do it over the long run.”

Consistency (as well as adequate production runway) are essential to make Apex Legends’ 90-day turnaround for new seasons of content realistic. Suarez observes that the introduction of new characters to the game takes a lot longer than you might anticipate “It takes us between a year and a year and a half to become proficient in a Legend. We are therefore making preparations well in advance.”

Only a few weeks ago, parent company EA fired more than 200 Apex Legends quality assurance testers in an impromptu Zoom call, raising concerns among some fans about the game’s future.

Do you support Respawn’s decision to open a third studio? Do you believe Apex Legends will still be around in 15 years?
