The New Monster Hunter: World Trailer Introduces the Creepy Rotten Vale

Capcom just released a new trailer for Monster Hunter: World, and it is beautiful.

The trailer focuses on the Rotten Vale, an area that wouldn’t look out of place in Dark Souls. Bones litter the ground, and a foul smoke rises from the dirt that might function as an environmental hazard, judging by the player character’s ability to disperse the smoke with fire. Of course, the trailer also shows off several new monsters. These monster include a purple, wolf-like lizard, a black, quadripedal snake with gigantic fangs and a pack of smaller, similar monsters, and a gargantuan monstrosity covered in bone shards. I can’t find any information on these creatures, not even names, but the trailer has me excited to hunt them.

The new Monster Hunter: World trailer isn’t just new monsters and locations, though; it takes time to show off the touted ecology and food chain mechanics players can use to make fights easier. The video demonstrates that the new purple lizard-wolf is capable of taking down the bone shard monster and the Paolumu, and that the Paolumi and Legiana hate each others’ guts. Also, hunters can use the grappling hooks that come with their new slinger items to hook onto moving cables.

The trailer seemingly ends with a hunter encountering a giant, unidentified monster rising out of a bone pile, but then the video cuts to a special crossover event with Horizon Zero Dawn. According to the video, the PlayStation 4 version of Monster Hunter: World will come with a special character skin that essentially lets gamers play as Horizon Zero Dawn‘s protagonist Aloy while hunting monsters. This character skin also comes Aloy’s signature tech bow and a skin that transforms the player’s Palico partner into a Horizon Zero Dawn robot. These skins are obviously exclusive to the PlayStation 4 version, which make me wonder what other version-exclusive skins we should expect. How much do you want to bet the Xbox One version will get a Halo-themed skin, complete with an MA5 Series Assault Rifle Bowgun?

All you have to do to get my attention is talk about video games, technology, anime, and/or Dungeons & Dragons - also people in spandex fighting rubber suited monsters.

The Twin-Linked Autocannon EXO-49 Emancipator Exosuit was teased for players of Helldivers 2

Helldivers 2 players now have a new major order that, if completed, will bring the EXO-49 Emancipator Exosuit into action. This is something we’ve been looking forward to since March, when we first caught a grainy glimpse of the machine in action. We loved the older EXO-45 Patriot model, which has a Gatling gun and a bunch of powerful missiles, but we could see ourselves going in a different direction, especially when we were up against the Automatons.

They will have to put in some work, though, as is always the case. Helldivers need to free an Automaton “Petafactory” in order to start making these good horses for mass deployment. It’s time to teach the people of Varylia 5 how to run a managed democracy, if only for our own good.

Are you a fan of the EXO-45 Patriot mech, or are you having trouble fitting it into your tried-and-true plans? What do you think about the EXO-49 amnesty? Does it make you want to? Leave a comment below and let us know.

Hideo Kojima is George Miller’s first choice for a video game adaptation of Mad Max

George Miller, who directed the Mad Max movies, thinks that people are ready for another adventure game. However, only a game made at “the highest level” by an auteur, like Hideo Kojima of Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding fame, will do.

It’s been said that Kojima thinks of George Miller as a god, and the Mad Max series is his personal Bible. On paper, this seems like a perfect match. Miller said that he would “never ask” the famous game designer to make such a game because he is sure that Kojima already has “so much fantastic stuff in his own head.” The “will they/won’t they” moment was caught on camera on the red carpet at the premiere of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.

The most recent Mad Max video game, which came out in 2015, “wasn’t as good as I wanted it to be,” says Miller. We hope Miller or at least one of his employees can get these two movie moguls to work on something together. We are sure Kojima would be very pleased.
