Level-5’s Professor Layton series has been going on for some time now, with the first game releasing for the DS back in 2007. Now the latest issue of Famitsu Weekly has announced that the first game will be getting an HD remaster, which is set to release for smartphones later this year.
The official name of the game is Professor Layton and the Curious Village EXHD, though it remains to be seen if this title will hold outside of Japan. Famitsu mentions that this HD remaster will also include some new elements, though what those actually are were not revealed in the article.
It’s likely that much more information on this game will be coming soon, so be sure to stay tuned for that. It also wasn’t revealed if this game would even be getting a release outside of Japan, though it likely will at some point. These types of releases usually launch in Japan first, before opening to a worldwide release several months down the line.
As for what’s next for the series, Level-5 has confirmed that a new entry in the series is planned for a late summer 2018 release. It remains to be seen whether or not this releases for Switch or 3DS, with the developer stating in the past that they were interested in bringing the series to a home console. They had originally intended to do that for Wii U, but due to that console’s poor sales it never materialized. However, considering that the Switch has been a big success so far it’s much more likely to happen.
