Deadlight: Director's Cut Seattle

As part of the ‘Pinata Madness’ event on GOG.com, players can now download Deadlight: Director’s Cut for the very low price of free. Be warned though, this offer is only available for the next 44 hours at the time of writing so make sure to get a move on.

Deadlight is a survival horror game from Tequila Works, originally released in 2012. Set in an apocalyptic world, Deadlight sees players take on the role of Randall Harper as he makes his way through recently destroyed America. Randall is looking for any sign of his family while also avoiding being munched by the reanimated dead, commonly described as ‘the shadow’.

As a side-scroller with platforming elements, Deadlight is a new take on the survival-horror genre that looks to provide a tense and cinematic experience. Whether you’re taking on the dead with scarce resources or you’re using the environment to sneak past enemies, Tequila Works has created a fully realized 2D landscape of 1986 Seattle for you to explore.

The director’s cut, released in 2016, enhances the original game in every way, from improved visuals to extra animations and textures. It also adds the ‘Survival Arena’, an added game mode where players will have to ‘put their survival skills to the test’. This translates to taking on waves of zombies as you build interactive defenses and use all of the weapons at your disposal.

This edition also comes with the original developer diaries and in-game digital art book, if you’re into bonus goodies or the Deadlight series as a whole.

While Deadlight: Director’s Cut released to fairly average reviews, you can’t argue with the price and it offers several genuinely intense moments. Swing over by GOG.com to pick up your copy but remember, you’ve only got until 16 August!

Deadlight Director’s Cut is available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Windows PC.

High on Life gets its first major paid DLC next week. From October 3, you can experience High on Knife. The offering was announced by a strange claymation trailer, and while you can still expect a silly experience, the developers wanted to make it spooky.

Announcing the DLC, Squanch Games CEO Mike Fridley said: “High On Knife is still hilarious and weird, but we’re getting spooky. Maybe not ‘I may never sleep again’ terror, but ‘my dreams are going to be broken for a while’. Imagine body horror, but your horrible body gets worse. We need your trust for now.”

Consider our curiosity piqued. Would you have bought High on Life for PlayStation or played it before? Any thoughts on High on Knife? Are you considering another serving?

After an alleged data breach this week, Google Trends registered a 277% increase in “delete PlayStation account” searches. Ransomware group claimed to have “successfully compromised all of Sony’s systems” and sold stolen data. The Japanese giant says it’s investigating.

Despite no leak confirmation, search data suggests many gamers are eager to close their accounts in the aftermath. A 277% increase in search traffic is alarming, but we don’t know how many queries it represents.

Sony was hit hard over a decade ago when a PSN data breach took down its online network. This led the company to offer free security and several games as compensation. Naturally, it increased behind-the-scenes security.
