We’ve been hearing rumors for a while now that a 16-inch variant of the MacBook Pro is in the works, and now it looks like we are on the cusp of its announcement. This new piece of information comes from a highly credible source, who claims that the new MacBook Pro will be announced tomorrow along with first impression media coverage.
The source is Bloomberg’s Marg Gurman, who is of course an extremely reliable source for this kind of thing. He claims that Apple will make the announcement via a press release on the Apple Newsroom, and will coincide with early hands-on impressions of the 16-inch MacBook Pro from media outlets and YouTube channels. This means that you can expect both an announcement as well as early thoughts on this new laptop very soon.
This information is further bolstered by reports from 9to5mac, who claim that Apple is holding private press briefings in their luxury loft mansion in New York City this week. There have been multiple tweets from tech reporters claiming that they are currently in New York this week, which likely means they’re in the process of testing these new MacBook Pros. Similar situations have happened in the past, as these reporters are of course forbidden to say exactly what they are doing until Apple makes the announcement.
The big question right now is how this new laptop will stand on its own outside of the new size, and it looks like it will have some nice bonuses. Slimmer bezels around the display are expected in order to attain a bigger screen size without making the laptop itself too much bigger, as well as a better scissor switch keyboard and a standalone Touch ID sensor. There are currently no reports on what the price may be, but considering the 15-inch model is $2,799 you can bet it’s going to be higher than that.
We of course need to take all of this information with a grain of salt for the time being, as nothing is official until we hear directly from Apple. If the rumors end up being true then we’ll likely have more concrete information to share with you tomorrow, so be sure to check back then.
