Nokia confirms that smartphones are not that close as previously believed

Nokia confirms that smartphones are not that close as previously believed

We had reported earlier about Nokia getting back into the smartphone business in our VR-related coverage that was based upon a series of exec statements about what kind of work Nokia is intending to do next year. Although the VR-related gear is not out of the question, Nokia smartphones seem to be, at least for now. Nokia has come forward with a statement following the former exec statements and rumors surrounding future Nokia smartphones that were supposed to be in the works. According to Nokia, a new start in the smartphone business is not something they are actually looking at right now.

Although the company didn’t completely shatter hopes about new Nokia smartphones that are similar to the Nokia N1 tablet in quality and performance, they did warn fans not to expect anything mobile too soon. According to a spokesperson, the company has no intention of releasing consumer handsets in the near future, but it does intend to be in the smartphone market through brand licensing, which was what they did with the N1 tablet not too long ago.

Nokia still has plans for the smartphone business, but no earlier than 2016 according to previous statements from the company. Although our sources keep firm about a new virtual reality handset being in the works at Nokia factories, we can’t say for sure what the company is planning for the near future. Although we do hope to see some neat Nokia-made smartphones next year, there’s no knowing when they will appear or who they will be licensed to. Until then, we’re looking forward to finding out more about what the Finnish company is planning for consumers. it would be a shame to see the potential Nokia has spun off, as there are millions of people out there who would be interested in a Nokia smartphone as soon as it hits stores. There’s definitely a huge market value for Nokia and consumers will most likely appreciate it if the company was more clear about their future plans.
