Halo 5: Guardians, the next title in Microsoft’s flagship Xbox series is set to launch this holiday season. Now that they’ve announced the release date Microsoft and developer 343 Industries can kick their marketing for Halo 5 into full gear. They’ve already kicked off a new audio series and released two trailers. This week a third trailer released focused on new character Spartan Locke’s armor. The Spartan Locke armor caught fans attention the first time it was revealed. This week’s trailer let fans know how they can get their hands on that armor.
The trailer shows Spartan Locke performing what might be the biggest ground pound in history jumping out of a pelican drop ship hovering over a city. After that the trailer is filled with non-stop action all of it showing off the Spartan Locke armor set. As Halo’s newest Spartan works through a horde of Covenant enemies an announcer pops up to say:
“Sometimes you’re the predator sometimes you’re the prey. When hunting season starts make sure you have the right gear”
So what is all this flashy display of the Spartan Locke armor about? The end of the trailer gives that away, gamers can pick up that fantastic new Spartan Locke armor set in-game. If they pre-order Halo 5: Guardians from Gamestop that is. The new trailer actually comes from Gamestop to promote the first of what will probably be many pieces of pre-order DLC. A move that will probably come as a shock to fans since no gameplay footage of Halo 5 has even been released before DLC was announced.
It’s a bold move for Microsoft to make when E3 is right around the corner; where they’ve promised huge new details about Halo 5. Many would say that waiting until after details, especially gameplay, was released at E3 to announce the Spartan Locke armor DLC would have been a better choice. Halo fans are still reeling after the rocky release of the Master Chief Collection, that’s being fixed by 343 seven months after release. Only time will tell how the Spartan Locke armor announcement will affect gamers opinion of Halo 5.
