The announcement of the new Super Smash Bros. game for Switch earlier this year was very brief, revealing very little information on the game other than that Splatoon’s inklings would be joining the fray. In fact, the announcement was so brief that many fans were unsure if this was a sequel or just a re-release of the last game.
Well, now everything has been clarified thanks to an industry insider that has a proven track record. He revealed that this game will be a full-blown sequel rather than an enhanced port, but that some assets will be re-used to some extent. He said the following:
“I know for sure and from one of my most credible and proven sources (the one who told me about Metroid Prime 4 being developed by Bandai Namco before anyone else said or knew anything about that) is that Ridley is a newcomer, the game is infact a sequel, but there will be assets being reused to some extent(s).”
Elsewhere in the info dump we learn about some potential characters that are being added to the roster. Apparently Metroid’s Ridley will be joining the fray for the first time, along with the Castlevania series’ Simon Belmont. He said the following:
“From a different source that I have also known to get things right in the short time that I have known them, there will be the return of Ice Climbers and a new Konami rep…. Simon Belmont. They say that they know that Ridley will be revealed at E3. I was even told by them that everyone is coming back from Super Smash Bros. on Wii U and 3DS. That includes all of the guests. But it otherwise will be a new game. Which I found interesting there will infact be no cuts.”
We of course need to take all of this with a grain of salt considering it isn’t official information, but given the person’s proven track record it has a very good chance of being true. It’s likely that much more official information will be coming from Nintendo during E3 2018, and we’ll be sure to keep you updated when more information is released.
