Apple has been teasing the AirPower Wireless Charger Mat for a while now, which essentially allows the user to charge multiple Apple devices at once just by placing them on the mat. This mat was designed for the iPhone X, iPhone 8, AirPods (inside of their wireless charging case) and Apple Watch, and it may finally be arriving later this year.
Bloomberg is reporting that Apple is planning to release this AirPower Wireless Charger Mat later this year, though right now they are trying to iron out all of the bugs. One of the biggest issues is with overheating, which is to be expected considering all of the juice this thing will need to charge three devices at once.
Engineers at Apple are also apparently having issues with compiling multiple charging sensors throughout the Charging Mat, which is to allow users to drop their devices anywhere on the mat to get a charge rather than precise locations. It has proven challenging because all of the devices are different sizes and their accompanying charging components must all overlap each other in the mat.
We’re still waiting on more official information on this Charging Mat, as a confirmed release date and price point have not yet been revealed. Currently, the price range is being estimated as being anywhere from the $199 to $299 range, though we’ll need to wait and see on the validity of that.
