If you are like me, you have had your hands full catching and training the Hoenn region Pokemon Niantic patched into Pokemon GO last year. I still have yet to catch ’em all, and that task is about to become even more daunting, because Niantic is introducing new Pokemon into the game very, very soon. In fact, odds are they will be available by the time you read this article.
According to the official Pokemon GO site, trainers will be able to catch 23 new Pokemon later today. If the new picture is any indication, the following Pokemon will be available for capture:
- Numel and Camerupt
- Aron, Lairon, and Aggron
- Trapinch, Vibrava, and Flygon
- Cacnea and Cacturne
- Whismur, Loudred, and Exploud
That’s fifteen Pokemon teased on the picture. Well, technically nine are in the picture, but we must assume their pre and post-evolutionary forms will also be introduced; what’s the point of patching in a Camerupt without including its pre-evolution Numel? Anyway, this leaves eight Pokemon unaccounted for. Who could they be? A self-published Silph Road reddit thread predicts Nosepass, Torkoal, Baltoy, Claydol, Lileep, Cradily, Anorith, and Armaldo, but the game’s splash screen teases Wobbuffet’s pre-evolution Wynaut, so it’s all up in the air at this point. Personally, I hope Castform is released this wave. It’s supposed to change form (and type) with the weather, which would work extremely well with Pokemon GO‘s new dynamic weather system. Well, even if isn’t released today, it will be eventually. Oh, and Rayquaza. We’ve already got Groudon, the Gen 3 legendary Pokemon of the earth, and its oceanic counterpart Kyogre, so their sky-faring brother from another mother Rayquaza is the obvious next step.
While the new Pokemon will be available later today, we do not know when the next wave of Hoenn region Pokemon will be available or which Pokemon it will include. Fingers crossed for Salamence and Metagross.
