Not so long ago, FIFA Ultimate Team players from FIFA 18 have found a tactic to bypass the highest difficulty AI in the game. This would actually score them a great quantity of FIFA Coins without any sort of issue at all.
FIFA 18 introduced a new FUT mode called Squad Battles. This lets you play computer-controlled teams for FIFA Coins and points that determine your ranking on the global leaderboard. At the end of the week, your ranking determines your rewards. The higher your ranking, the better the rewards, which can be considerable.
The way this exploit worked involved playing with incompetent Bronze Ranked players on the front. This forced the AI to very likely commit a foul by slow walking into a scoring position and pretty much screwed them over.
The exploit itself wasn’t really a “No-effort to win” thing, to be honest. According to Eurogamer’s editor Wesley Yin-Poole, the tactic works once you get the hang of it. Well, the tactic used to work, since Electronic Arts has taken out this “unintended gameplay mechanic”.
So, the patch will remove the chance for the CPU AI controlled player to receive a second yellow card when trying to push or pull an opponent, with the exception of an attacker who is through on goal and one-on-one with the keeper (this has no impact on human controlled players).
In other words, this gets rid of the easiest way to get the FIFA Coins in the FUT Mode. It is still possible to make the computer get a second Yellow Card. This is done by somehow making the AI commit a bad tackle.
I mean, what else can be said about this that isn’t already said by Eurogamer or me? Considering that there are far more important subjects to tackle like the horrid Loot Boxes in Battlefront II. Or about the EA Sports (Har) developer who got death threats sent to him because of it.
