The Fate of Days Gone

The Fate of Days Gone
Logan Elmer
March 23, 2017

Days Gone is supposed to be an open world action- horror title but I’m not so sure these two genres will mix so well. If Resident Evil 7 taught us anything, it’s that tight, claustrophobic environments give us the best sense of horror, so how will the horror come across? my suspicion is not very well. Open world games are about the exploration of new environments and doing things that other genres can’t with that level of freedom.  Maybe they have a trick up their sleeve to bring a truly horrific feeling to that open world.

Another concern of mine is that the main antagonists in Days Gone are zombies. The last generation was plagued by an endless amount of zombie games and we only got a handful that were really worth playing, those being the Left 4 Dead series and Dead Rising series. Heck, even Resident Evil, the game that made zombies a thing in video games, made a move away from them in the most recent installment. I know they’re adding different variations for each of the zombies but still. We need more variety in our games and to have a do over of the last gen is a major worry.

Even with all of these concerns of mine I can’t wait to see what SIE Bend does with the world. Being a biker in a post- apocalyptic world sounds like a great time. We may even get a Last Of Us level of story from it, and that would truly make this title stand out. The gameplay also looked fantastic, but we will have to wait and see. Sony will more than likely make it one of their biggest titles at E3 this year and I can’t wait.

I'm a big guy from a small town who adores the video game industry. It's been my dream since i was very small to work in it and im glad i finally get to do that. My favorite games include MGS, Last of us and God of War 3.
