A trailer for the fan made film Voldermort: Origins of the Heir was released on the web on the 28th of May and has impressed many with its dazzling visuals, intriguing premise and all round great quality. Fans of the Harry Potter franchise are hyped.
Voldermort: Origins of the Heir is a non-canonical prequel to the Harry Potter series. The story follows a young Tom Riddle and depicts his first rise to power as Lord Voldermort.
It’s been a bit of a rocky road for the independent film company, Tryangle, to get their project going. They originally took the project to Kickstarter, in 2016, to be crowdfunded. However, Warner Bros. put a stop to the project over an issue with copyright violations.
With the release of their first trailer however, it’s been revealed that Tryangle and Warner Bros. came to an agreement that the film could go ahead as long as it’s made for non-profit reasons. Gianmaria Pezzato, the director of the film, told the website Polygon via email:
“We had a private and confidential discussion with Warner Bros who contacted us during the period of the crowdfunding campaign… The only thing we can say is that they let us proceed with the film, in a non-profit way, obviously.”
With Warner Bros. now allowing Tryangle to continue production under their specific conditions, the film is said to already be in post-production and scheduled for release, supposedly on Youtube, by the end of the year.
There has been no news on what the author of Harry Potter, J K Rowling, thinks about the whole affair.
